Free State Social Work is approved as a continuing education provider by the Association of Social Work Boards Approved Continuing Education Program (provider #1235) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (provider #6605).

Does the Utah Board accept courses from ASWB-approved continuing education providers?

Yes!

How many hours can I earn with on-line CE courses?

LCSWs can earn a maximum of 15 hours for online courses.  SSW or CSWs can earn eight hours for online courses.

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker / Certified Social Worker: Completed 40 hours of continuing education directly related to your professional practice, of which at least 6 hours must be in the area of professional ethics, law, or technology and 2 hours in suicide prevention.
    •  For LCSWs, 15 hours of continuing education may be accrued from online, self-study courses. The remaining 25 hours must be accrued as part of an in-person course or via live, interactive webinars.
    • For CSWs, 8 hours of continuing education may be accrued from online, self-study courses. The remaining 12 hours must be accrued as part of an in-person course or via live, interactive webinars.
    • PRO-RATED CEUs: Individuals who are completing their first cycle of continuing education and have not been licensed for 2 full years shall be required to complete the following pro-rated amount of continuing education:
      • CSWs: .8 hours for each month you are licensed, beginning on your license issuance date, and ending on your expiration date.
      • LCSWs: 1.6 hours for each month you are licensed, beginning on your license issuance date, and ending on your expiration date.
  • Social Service Worker: Completed 20 hours of continuing education directly related to your professional practice, of which at least 6 hours must be in the area of professional ethics, law or technology and 2 hours in suicide prevention.

Please remember that we have done our best to research your state’s licensing guidelines. Licensing regulations can change frequently including guidelines about how many hours you can earn on-line. Most jurisdictions require a certain number of hours in ethics and other areas of practice. The final authority for approving any continuing education activity rests with your state board. Even those states that accept ASWB and NBCC approved programs may have exceptions in terms of the courses that they will accept. It is ultimately your responsibility to understand the licensing regulations in your state.

Does Free State Social Work offer Utah Social Work CEUs? Trainings? Contact Hours? Credit Hours?

Different jurisdictions have different definitions.  For some jurisdictions, the term CEU consists of ten credit hours.  At Free State Social Work, we offer continuing education credit hours and we estimate that each credit hour will require one hour of reading.
