{"id":198,"date":"2011-09-19T19:11:59","date_gmt":"2011-09-20T02:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.freestatesocialwork.com\/?page_id=198"},"modified":"2026-03-05T15:42:29","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T21:42:29","slug":"washington-social-work-ceus","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.freestatesocialwork.com\/?page_id=198","title":{"rendered":"Washington Social Work Continuing Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Welcome Washington Social Workers!<\/h2>\n<p>Free State Social Work is approved as a continuing education provider by the\u00a0<strong>Association of Social Work Boards Approved Continuing Education Program<\/strong>\u00a0(provider #1235) and the\u00a0<strong>National Board for Certified Counselors\u00a0<\/strong>(provider #6605).<\/p>\n<h2>Does the Washington Board accept courses from ASWB-approved continuing education providers?<\/h2>\n<p>Yes!<\/p>\n<h2>How many hours can I earn with on-line CE courses?<\/h2>\n<p>There is no longer a limit on distance learning. \u00a0The Department of Health will allow continuing education to be completed via online distance learning, either synchronous or asynchronous.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Advanced and Independent Clinical<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Every two years:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Complete 32 hours of continuing education (CE) per <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/WAC\/default.aspx?cite=246-809-630\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WAC 246\u2011809\u2011630<\/a>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Of those hours, at least 6 must be in professional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freestatesocialwork.com\/?cat=11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ethics<\/a> and law (topics may include those listed in <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/RCW\/default.aspx?cite=18.130.180\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RCW 18.130.180<\/a>).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Complete a minimum of 2 hours in professional roles and boundaries.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Every four years:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Complete 2 hours of health equity training, consistent with <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/WAC\/default.aspx?cite=246-12-830\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WAC 246\u201112\u2011830<\/a>.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Every six years:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Complete 6 hours of suicide assessment, treatment, and management training (<a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/wac\/default.aspx?cite=246-809-615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WAC 246\u2011809\u2011615<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/rcw\/default.aspx?cite=43.70.442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RCW 43.70.442<\/a>). \u00a0 Our program does not offer an approved suicide assessment, treatment, and management course.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Associates<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Associates must complete 6 hours of suicide assessment, treatment, and management training after initial licensure and before the first renewal, per <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/wac\/default.aspx?cite=246-809-615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WAC 246\u2011809\u2011615<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/WAC\/default.aspx?cite=246-809-630\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WAC 246\u2011809\u2011630<\/a>. Our program does not offer an approved suicide assessment, treatment, and management course.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Every year:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Complete 16 hours of CE.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Every two years:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Complete 6 hours in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freestatesocialwork.com\/?cat=11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">professional ethics<\/a> and law.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Complete a minimum of 2 hours in professional roles and boundaries.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>These hours may count toward the 16\u2011hour annual requirement in the year they are completed.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Every four years:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Complete 2 hours of health equity training.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Every six years:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Complete 6 hours of suicide assessment, treatment, and management training (<a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/wac\/default.aspx?cite=246-809-615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WAC 246\u2011809\u2011615<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/rcw\/default.aspx?cite=43.70.442\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RCW 43.70.442<\/a>). Our program does not offer an approved suicide assessment, treatment, and management course.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Retired Active<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Every two years, retired active licensed marriage and family therapists, retired active licensed mental health counselors and retired active licensed social workers must complete 18 hours of CE. Licensing regulations can change frequently including guidelines about how many hours you can earn on-line. Most jurisdictions require a certain number of hours in ethics and other areas of practice. The final authority for approving any continuing education activity rests with your state board. Even those states that endorse the ACE program may have exceptions in terms of the courses that they will accept. It is ultimately your responsibility to understand the licensing regulations in your state.<\/p>\n<h2>Does Free State Social Work offer Washington Social Work CEUs? Trainings? Contact Hours?
